Biography

Emma Dawes has worked in the field of ‘green’ cosmetics for over fifteen years. She works at the Soil Association, the UK’s first certification body to develop organic beauty standards. Emma graduated from the University of Bristol with a BSc. in chemistry and an MSc. in analytical chemistry. Emma works on the technical and chemical aspects of certification of cosmetics, for both COSMOS and Soil Association standards. She represents Soil Association on the COSMOS technical committee, which discusses raw materials, Regulations and technical points within the COSMOS standard. Emma has given various presentations and lectures around Europe on ethical and sustainable issues. Emma is a member of the Sustainable Action Network and was invited on to a technical working group for sustainable period products to help create an ISO standard regarding Menstrual Products. She has always had a very strong interest in environmental issues and also works in the organic food and organic textiles sectors (Global Organic Textile Standard, GOTS). Her hobbies are cycling, dancing, yoga and music.
